Hemorrhoids, also commonly known as the piles, is actually the stretching of the radicles of anal veins beyond normal dimensions which causes swelling in the veins or group of veins in the anal region. You can say that a radicle is a smallest branch of blood vein. As compared to the arteries, veins are weak because of their thin walls. That is why veins can easily get strained and twisted with even a little more than normal back pressure. In order to prevent back flow, veins have one-way valve mechanism. Any pressure increase inside the veins cause hemorrhoids.
Types of Hemorrhoids:

External hemorrhoids, on the other hand, are external to the anal canal which means it is outside the anus and are covered with skin. The color of external hemorrhoids is usually brown or black. External hemorrhoids are much more painful as compared to the internal hemorrhoids. A person may have both internal as well as external hemorrhoids at the same time.
